Skinningrove and the Cleveland Way

12 peeps inc Steve set off from Skinningrove onto the CW towards Staithes, with a stop to look at a poem that was carved into the cliff by a 69 year old chap to his beloved Pauline. It took him 65 days to complete up a ladder in 2015. Passing a trig point to mark 213m we headed to a building that housed a Sirocco fan which ventilated Grinkle Mine then onto the Mine itself.

We had lunch there amongst its ruins whilst a volunteer from the Heritage Society told us of its buildings, relics and history. After lunch we walked along Ridge Lane, past Spring House Cottage with its holiday lets and along Loy Lane to Loftus.

Once through Loftus it was onto Cleveland Street,  an ancient track back to Skinningrove. The weather was perfect, the company was perfect, the sad thing being both pubs were shut so it was straight back home
