2021_07_18 Dad’s Wolsingham Walk

Leader : Marg          Distance : 10 miles

My Dad (Brian Edwards) lead this walk for the club in July 1996 so 25 years later I decided to do it

9 of us left Wolsingham, crossed over the river and followed the Weardale Way east to Bradley Cottage and Black Bank Plantation. We managed to find a spot in the shade for our coffee stop.

We continued along the Weardale Way crossing back over the Wear and the over the railway line where we left it taking the path up the the A689 road.

Crossing the road we took the coal road then the path west towards the village of Thornley first finding a much needed shady spot in The Birches woody area for lunch.

From Thornley we we headed south passing Bradley Burn Farm Shop where we were able to top up our water and Trisha bought an ice cream

We crossed back over the main road and railway ling and followed the Weardale Way on the north side of the river back to Wolsingham where we finished off with a drink in the Black Bull

There was a lot of discussion over the mileage of the walk but Sue finally agreed that it was the 10.5 miles as advertised!
