2021_07_03 Cockfield, Copley and the Fell

Leader : Marg          Distance : 9 miles

It was a case of do we put the waterproofs on or not on the start of our walk. It looked like it was going to be one of those jackets on and off days. 10 of us left Cockfield through the village and took the path to Burnt Houses. We then headed west along Scotland Lane where soon it was definitely jackets on. We had our coffee stop in the sheltered Gibbsneese wooded area.

After coffee we made our way to the village of Copley passing below the well known Copley Chimney and onto Lynesack (2 of our walkers names Lynn and Mrs Esack!). We managed to stop for lunch in between the rain showers. After lunch it was over the fields then we followed a little stream to The Slack by which time it had stopped raining and had brightened up.

We made our way back to Cockfield over the Fell following the River Gaunless and passing the Gaunless Viaduct finishing off with a drink in The Queens Head
