Elaine reports :-
11 of us had an enjoyable walk through the rolling countryside just to the east of Durham City. Our route took us through several former mining villages.
Cassop Vale was our coffee and cake stop. A former hunting area for the Bishops of Durham, Cassop Vale is an ecologically important nature reserve lying on magnesium limestone-based soil common to eastern County Durham. No Bishops on horseback today but we did see a galloping pony and a couple of very friendly highland cattle.
Our day stayed fine throughout with plenty of glimpses of the sun through the clouds. Oh and plenty of mud!…..
Post walk drink at The Farmers Arms back in Shadforth.
