Jan reports :-
A smaller than usual group today as many members were attending a first aid course. So six of us left coverbridge along the river with the wind behind us towards Jervaulx Abbey. We thought we could take advantage of the outdoor seating at the cafe even though it was closed for the winter. However we were quickly moved on and had to find a suitable tree trunk in the park for our elevenses. A short road section took us over the bridge and we turned into the wind for our return journey. Not wanting the hassle of removing muddy boots we opted for lunch outside the village hall in Thornton Steward rather than inside. The villagers hospitality in providing facilities for refreshments in the hall if you choose, made up for the lack of it from the cafe owner/staff.
We faced a blustery and challenging head on wind all the way back but the rain held off mostly and we were quickly rejuvenated in’t local pub.
