There were eight walkers on my walk today and conscious of the shortening days we set off at brisk pace and headed toward the stepping stones over the river. It wasn’t until I looked back at my little group that I realised that Nigel was definitely out of his comfort zone crossing the fast flowing river. However, having overcome the challenge of the day the low cloud, mizzle and lack of views proved no further deterrent and everyone appeared happy and were complimentary at the end of the walk. We followed the Weardale way east via Parson’s Green to Frosterley and we returned on the other side of the valley ending our walk in Ashes Quarry from where we descended into Stanhope, a distance of 10.5 miles.
