Dovedale Friday Walk.

Well it seems the Happy Wanderers have had the usual great weekend away while the rest of us were slaving away  to keep the country going. Here is the tale kindly supplied by Jan.

The good weather was the icing on the cake of a great weekend in Dovedale enjoyed by 20 of our members this March. Everyone arrived on the Friday in good time to enjoy a packed lunch in the lounge of the hotel followed by a short circular walk from the HF house, taking in part of the Tissington Trail. We were treated to a delicious afternoon tea which set the standard for the gourmet weekend ahead.

Saturday morning we all set out from Monyash towards Lathkill Dale with eight members following Anne Jackson on the B walk and 12 with me initially on the same route and then beyond for an A walk.

Lathkill Dale was Anne’s recommendation and it didn’t disappoint as we followed the most beautiful clear river the full length of the dale.

The sun shone brightly on Sunday as Anne took her B group into Milldale and Dovedale while Gary led the rest of us on a circular walk further north which encompassed Stanage Edge where the views were spectacular in all directions.

Monday saw most of us taking in the places of interest such as Arkwright’s museum or the Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath before heading back north.
The combination of great walks, good company and excellent food and accommodation guaranteed a lovely weekend for all.
