2021_05_20 North and East Cowton

Leader : Marg          Distance 5.8 miles

Despite the weather forecast 9 of us turned out with waterproofs at the ready. Mike Yates joined us informing us that he would be leaving Darlington to go and live near his family in Preston. He hopes to do some more walks with us before his departure in July.

We set off through the village of North Cowton then over the fields first east then north to East Cowton passing through St. Marys Church. Once again having a bit of an encounter with some very lively horses. Peter was on the receiving end this time. Luckily his jacket provided a bit of padding.

We were starting to feel the first spots of rain and managed to find a nice old covered barn for our lunch stop.

We passed by Cowton Castle on our way back by which time true to the forecast it was absolutely pouring down. To avoid any mishaps we took to the road for the last little bit as there was a very unsafe stile.

In case we don’t see Mike again I thanked him on behalf of the club for all the walks he has lead

3 finished us off the walk with a drink in The Herdsman
