Leader : Robert Wade. Distance : 8 miles
Marg reports :-
We had a change of walk today as Les isn’t well, so Robert decided he would swap with him and do his Nunthorpe walk
5 of us set off from the village and very soon we had a lovely view of Roseberry Topping. We got as far as the railway line but unfortunately were unable to pass under it as the mud and water were just too deep.
After looking at the map Robert and I decided the only option would be to backtrack to the farm we had passed and change the route of the walk. This would make it a bit longer than the 5 miles but as the weather was getting brighter we were all in agreement.
We headed to Morton Carr then followed the railway line leaving it to make our way to the Church at Newton Under Roseberry passing Snow Hall Farm where we saw our first lambs of the year.
After having lunch at the church we backtracked again, now following the railway line the other way. Unfortunately the weather had now changed and it was pouring down. We got back to Morton Carr by which time the rain had stopped. From there it was just a short way back to Nunthorpe Village
A look at the GPS saw that we’d done 8.5 miles! We all agreed it was a lovely walk with views of Roseberry Topping all day. We topped it off with all drink in The Southern Cross.
