Ann reports :-
Really good turnout – 19 walkers met up in Whitby for the country and coastal 8.5 mile circular walk.
Leaving Whitby harbour we headed out towards the cinder path – the former track of the Scarborough to Whitby railway.
We walked for approx 2 miles along the cinder path, passing over the viaduct overlooking the village of Ruswarp and continuing along the track before taking an early lunch break at picnic benches outside the Windmill pub.
Back onto the track and continued towards High Hawsker turning left and leaving the track to arrive at Northcliffe caravan park where we had great views of the North Sea and joined the coastal path at the point where the Cleveland Way joins the coast to coast walk. Very breezy walk along the Cleveland way passing both the Whitby lighthouse and the Fog signal building before we got views of Whitby abbey.
Great views of Whitby before descending the 199 steps into the town. Many pirates were milling around the town supporting the Pirate weekend around the harbour. Back to cars to change footwear before enjoying fish and chip supper and refreshments at Trenchers.
Great days walking.
