Marg reports :-

22 of us set off north out of  St John’s Chapel. We crossed the Wear then it was a climb up over fields and tracks up towards Middlehope Moor.

We headed east along Selling rake and Sedling Vein stopping for lunch above Cowshill with views of Burnhope Reservoir to the left and disused lead mine workings and limestone quarry ahead

We then dropped down into Cowshill passing Burtree Ford Mill now a house before crossing the river and picked up the Weardale Way

We followed the Weardale Way passing through Wearhead to West Blackdene where we left it for a short climb up to walk through Newhouse with views over Weardale

It was then back down to pick up the Weardale Way again. A quick drink stop by a lovely waterfall and pool was too inviting for Richard so in he went

We then continued on and it was back to St John’s Chapel crossing the river on the old narrow bridge which we had used at the beginning of our walk

We sat outside in the Sunshine of the Golden Lion for our post walk drink
