Though a popular walking area for our club, it was good to hear from a few of our seasoned walkers, that the route took them to some previously unfamiliar and very pretty walking areas around Staindrop today. A walk at its best in the Springtime, the woods were carpeted with flowering bulbs including the beautiful bluebell. Coffee was taken on the green at Cleatlam and lunch in the sunshine by the old church of St Andrew’s in Winston. Another pretty riverside walk away from Winston and onto the grounds of Selaby Hall and onwards to Alwent Mill. (The Alwent Mill water-powered mill for grinding corn dates back to 1792)
The sun kept shining as we exited the Wheatsheaf following our post walk drink.
