Elaine reports :-
Luckily for us, 13 set off to the beautiful little hamlet of Hardraw. Famous for its waterfall…..(the highest single drop waterfall in North Yorks at 99ft)
We headed out of the hamlet on the Pennine Way towards Shunner Fell. Stopping someway short of the fell, we descended through the dark woodland into Cotterdale.
Another gem of a hamlet, with wonderful old architecture.
As we climbed out of Cotterdale, the views down into Mallerstangdale, Mossdale and Garsdale Junction were breathtaking.
Joining the Lady Anne’s Highway provided some shelter from the cool breeze.
(Named after Lady Anne Clifford, a renowned noblewoman of the Stuart era who used this route to travel between her Westmorland castles and estates).
Riverside meadows led us back towards Hardraw and a welcome post walk drink in the very atmospheric Green Dragon.
