Richard led 11 walkers from the pretty village of Winston to Whorlton.
The nearby bridge over the River Tees at Winston once held claim to being the biggest single stone arch bridge in Europe.
The bridge was used in the filming of A Piece of Cake where a Spitfire flew under the bridge. You can view this spectacular feat via the internet.
A small replica iron spitfire is attached to the top of the bridge in tribute.
The warm dry conditions were perfect for our “bring and share” lunch on Whorlton green.
A quick visit was made to the beautiful St Mary’s church as we exited the village. Well worth a visit if you are in the area to view the stained glass windows and interesting stone floor plaques.
Refreshments were taken en-route back to Winston at The Four Alls public house in Ovington,
Another lovely walk from Richard
