Elaine reports :-
Richard led 16 walkers from The George at Piercebridge. The clock in the George Hotel is said to have inspired Henry Clay Work’s 1876 song “My Grandfather’s clock”.
The clock had been owned by two brothers named Jenkins. When one brother died, he clock began losing time and it stopped forever upon the death of the other.
Our walk took us over the county border into the lovely village of Aldbough St John in North Yorkshire where we had lunch on the village green.
Due to the very warm weather, a further rest stop was organised by Richard in the village of Eppleby. Ice creams and juices were purchased in the local village store
and consumed on one of the villages’ two greens.
Back to Piercebridge and a quick look at some of the Roman remains before enjoying a post walk drink in The George.
