In true Enid style, “Five on a Hike together”, set out from Hutton le Hole in the parish of Ryedale.
Bound for Lastingham where we took a quick look around the wonderful St Mary’s Church which boasts an early Norman crypt,
constructed in 1078 which is quite unique in English parish churches.
The long straight pull out of Lastingham up to the open moors led us to Ana Cross.
The cross we see today was restored in 1998 and being 12 feet high is the tallest cross on the moors though the original may have been twice this height.
Onwards to the top of Rosedale Bank we took a left and a combination of road and moorland tracks back towards Hutton le Hole.
A sunny day with a warm breeze prevailed throughout and a cool drink outside the Crown went down very well.
